Obamabag

Runway to Win, is a new initiative that has major American designers, brought together by Vogue, designing items to be sold on Obama’s website. The proceeds benefit the president’s re-election efforts. While the initiative was only announced this week, most of the products are on the site and available for pre-order.

Prices range from $45 to $85, which is pretty inexpensive for designer items! Scroll down to see photos of what designers like Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Proenza, and many more designed for this initiative.

Kristen Stewart for Balenciaga

Kristen-Stewart-in-Balenciaga-dress-chs1

Kristen Stewart is known for her edgy and rock n’ roll inspired attire. Personally, I admire her for it. Her outfits can be risky compared to any normal celebrity on the red carpet.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that Kristen was chosen to be the face of Balenciaga’s newest fragrance, why you ask? Balenciaga is known for not being the typical “pretty’’ brand. If you want unique and edgy items, Balenciaga is the way to go!

Kristen told WWD:

“Balenciaga has always stood out to me. Even when I first began to consider fashion and admittedly rarely knew the brand I was wearing, I always recognized and loved Balenciaga. It feels full circle to be involved with something that spoke to me then and of course continues to excite me now. The brand is just cool. That’s the way it is. I feel drawn to it. It provokes on a number of levels. It isn’t afraid or contrived. It hits a very cool balance, always. Always pretty undeniable.”

Balenciaga’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere called Stewart a “muse” for the scent, telling WWD that he’s wanted to work with her again after doing a project together in 2006.

I think Kristen is the right fit for this fragrance, but what do you Munsters think about it?

Vogue University

teenvogue_fashionmunster

On October 20th 2011 I packed up my little orange car and headed to the airport to go to New York City. I was accepted into the wonderful Teen Vogue Fashion University, where people discuss their dreams and you get to meet and hear from the industries best!

Since I was one of the first people that were accepted I got to choose some wonderful seminars to attend!

I had the pleasure of going to Michael Kors, Alexander Wang, Betsey Johnson, Rebecca Minkoff, The Teen Vogue Editors, and an exclusive floor tour of the Teen Vogue offices in the Conde Nast building!! What a dream come true!

Michael Kors has got to be one of the best people to hear speak, you can hear the passion in his voice. His story is a wonderful one and most definitely influenced me to start sketching and making my own clothes again!

Betsey Johnson is the most fearless woman I have ever met. She has such charisma and is such a wonderful woman! For the young age of 65 she is feisty. Did you know that before she was well-known she went to the Conde Nast building and left tee-shirts of her design with her business cards in all the womens washrooms! How original! Obviously someone liked her designs too. I know I certainly love her fearless style with that mix of punk and girly tutu’s.

I have always loved Alexander Wang’s designs, I enjoyed hearing about his experience at fashion school…he dropped out! Look at him now… Model Street Style fashion!

Rebecca Minkoff’s seminar was very interesting as well! I didn’t know very much about her, but I did enjoy to hear her speak!

The Teen Vogue office tour was one of the highlights of my trip! To see the stacks of back issues, Chanel bags, accessories everywhere… it was magnificent! I even got to see Amy Astley’s office AND the fashion closet!!

Teen Vogue University is a weekend event. It started off with a special shopping event at H&M on Friday, Saturday morning (super early) the seminars began, Saturday night there was another shopping event at Topshop in Soho, Sunday morning we had a seminars about technology. The “Fashion in the digital age” was very helpful! There was speakers from Who What Wear, ModCloth and the fashion PR girl from DKNY (that we all know and love on Twitter)! I found their advice very helpful.

After Teen Vogue University was done, I had 2 days to explore and enjoy the city! I was on the set of Gossip Girl where I got to meet Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester! I was able to watch them film part of an episode as well, it was so wonderful for me especially since I LOVE Gossip Girl! Fashion Munster loves Gossip Girl!

I also went to Laduree while I was there. If you have never been and you live in NYC you NEED to go. I am basically telling you if you don’t go you are missing out HUGELY! Maybe you should buy me a box of macaroons and send them to me in Canada too? Laduree is a wonderful, dreamy bakery. Known worldwide for their desserts and macaroons, they NYC store in the only one in the United States. Unless you want to fly to Paris, France to have bite of heaven you should go to this store! Laduree also made ALL of the wonderful decadent desserts in the movie Marie Antoinette starring Kirsten Dunst!

Of course I visited The MET, The Natural History Museum, Central Park, The Empire State Building, and so much more! I LOVE NY t-shirts exist for a reason; as soon as you go you fall head over heels in love!

The 5 days that I spent in NYC were the greatest in my life (so far) and I cannot wait to go back again!

Fashionable Food

Photographer Fulvio Bonavia did a shoot recently called “Food Dresses” for Garage Magazine. Two things everyone loves, fashion and food, brought together in one shoot.

The shoot features Louis Vuitton, Prada, Alexander McQueen and Moncler…dresses from these designers were recreated with lettuce, anchovies, walnuts and oranges.

What do you Munsters think?

Rebecca Taylor: TNBC!

Rebecca_Taylor_fashionmunster_com

Rebecca Taylor has designed a beautiful nude eyelash trim ruffle blouse to raise awareness and funds for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation (TNBC).

TNBC is a foundation dedicated to raising awareness and funding research aimed at the aggressive subtype of breast cancer “Triple Negative”.

TNBC was founded in 2005, and was established in the honor of Nancy Block-Zenna, a woman who was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and died 2 and a half years later at the age of 37.

50% of the proceeds of this special silk blouse go directly to TNBC!

Triple negative breast cancer is aggressive, and most often occurs in younger women and African-Americans. When diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, common breast cancer treatments are generally NOT affective.

Rebecca Taylor has strong feelings about finding a cure for breast cancer! She designed this blouse to help benefit the foundation.

The blouse retails at $235 and is available online and in Rebecca Taylor boutiques.

Alexander McQueen

kate-middleton-Alexander_Mcqueen

Alexander McQueen brought a cascade of feathers and ruffles to the runway on Tuesday for the Ready to wear Spring/Summer 2012 show. Full of femininity but also still edgy and dark creative director Sarah Burton presented a show-stopper mixing tradition with darkness. Full of flirty skirts, high collars and armor-like bodices this was THE show to see in Paris.

It would not have been an Alexander McQueen show without a little dark twist, as you can see by the photos the models wore form-fitting “death” masks. There were small parts that if you looked too quickly you would miss it, like a glimpse of a harness at the back of a garment; an aggressive note that was used in the Fall 2011 collection as well.

Snakeskin Accessories

Snakeskin is HUGE.  Snakeskin shoes, bags, and clothing are all the rage.  You can find great shoes for decent prices (not real snakeskin of course). Aldo, Nine West and Bebe have great styles of shoes and bags for affordable prices!

Printed Items

Wearing a print with a basic cardigan or dark opaque tights are a hit for the fall. Mixing prints can be hard, but it can easily be done as long as you don’t overdo it.  Basic way to incorporate prints into your fall wardrobe? Easy. Get a blazer (black, blue etc) and wear it over the most wonderful printed dress, the blazer will make you look polished.

You can find great printed dresses at H&M, Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 for affordable prices. If you are looking for more of a designer edge try Juicy Couture or Alexander McQueen.

Rachel Bilson

Leather

Leather is everywhere (and in all different colors too!). Try a leather skirt with a flowy button down top, leather pants with a feminine top or wear a leather dress! You can find skirts, pants, and dresses made of leather (or pleather) at places like The Gap, H&M, Juicy Couture, Gucci, Danier…

The leather trend has been seen on all sorts of celebrities, so make sure to try it out!

Lace

Lace is so beautiful and elegant. It looks great on everyone too! Lace has met a sexy, rocker vibe this season as well as the beautiful classic lace garments. If you are looking for something lace to try out, start with a lace skirt and pair it with a basic top. Lace dresses are beautiful too, if you feel overdone throw on a nice blazer or cardigan and you will be all set!! You can find a lot of lace for affordable prices at Forever 21, Bebe, and Urban Outfitters.

Lace isn’t only for clothing though. Grab a pair of lace heels and you are all set to master this trend! My wishlist for lace is the Valentino lace booties…they are beautiful.
