Designer to Watch- Yotam Solomon

With New York Fashion Week just around the corner, many of you Munsters are probably anticipating some highly creative avant-garde collections from your favorite designers. Tell us, Munsters, which designers are you all planning to watch?

One designer that we at Fashion Munster will definitely be watching is Los Angeles based Israeli designer Yotam Solomon (24 years old).

Yotam, a FIDM graduate, created his first collection named YOTAM SOLOMON in July 2007 after being inspired by his pattern making position at a men’s label. The YOTAM SOLOMON collection and YOTAM SOLOMON footwear made their debut at the 2008 Spring/Summer LA Fashion Week in October 2007, allowing Yotam to make history for being the youngest designer ever shown during LA Fashion Week!

Believing that both designers and artists draw inspiration from one another, Yotam continued to make a name by distinguishing himself apart from other up and coming designers. In 2008, Vogue stated, “Even more impressive, Solomon’s knack for the avant-garde and a wise-beyond-his years understanding for colour combine that which designers twice his age often lack.”

The YOTAM SOLOMON collection is geared towards being ecofriendly.  All designs in his ready to wear, footwear, and accessories collections are made from organic and natural material. Yotam has even used his designs to support efforts in improving our environment. In September 2010 Yotam created the first and only collection inspired by the BP Oil Spill in order to raise awareness and funds. This past year Yotam also collaborated with Coca-Cola’s Dasani Water to create a collection inspired by Dasani’s plant based bottle. Yotam’s collection of handmade dresses that were made out of live plants and florals were presented by Glee’s Matthew Morrison on Earth Day 2011 at a live fashion show at The Grove in Los Angeles, CA.

The main priorities of Yotam’s brand are to inspire and empower making its motto: ‘Slip into the extraordinary’. Yotam’s designs from his collection YOTAM SOLOMON have been seen on celebrities such as Nikki Reed, Christian Serratos, Monet Mazur, Stacy Keibler, Kim Kardashian, Natalie Coughlin, and have been featured in the LA Magazine editorial of “All of My Children” and in America’s Next Top Model Cycle 13.

Yotam has been named as “Super-Star designer” by E! Entertainment in 2009 and “L.A.’s Top Young Designer” by AOL’s  Stylelist.

Besides his signature collection YOTAM SOLOMON and YOTAM SOLOMON FOOTWEAR, Yotam has launched YOTAM SOLOMON II and YOTAM SOLOMON FOOTWEAR II targeted towards a commercial audience, offering lower prices. And this February Yotam will be launching a new men’s collection along with his women’s collection, which has got our Fashion Munster senses tingling!
